Organized in Paris this Thursday, the UEFA congress did not lack issues. If the Super League, at the heart of a huge debate on the football planet, and the future of Aleksander Ceferin at the head of the body were notably discussed by the various leaders present, this Parisian summit was also an opportunity to ‘carry out the draw for the next League of Nations. Who will succeed Portugal, France and Spain on the list of winners of this recent competition? Crowned in 2021 but disappointing during the 2022-2023 edition, the Blues of Didier Deschamps (twelfth for their last participation) were not seeded and could therefore come up against very heavy stuff.
As a reminder, hat 1 of League A was made up of the four participants of the last Final Four with the Spanish title holder, the Croatian finalist, Italy and the Netherlands. In hat 2, we found Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, Belgium, Denmark and Hungary, carried by its star Dominik Szoboszlai. If France could not fall against Switzerland, Germany and Poland (the three other nations in hat 3), Kylian Mbappé’s teammates will face, despite everything, very big selections.
France inherits Belgium and Italy!
Present in group A2, the Blues will cross paths with Belgium and Italy before challenging Israel. Title holders Spain will face Denmark, Switzerland and Serbia in Pool A4. Group A3 is made up of the Netherlands, Hungary, Germany, host country of the next Euro, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Finally, CR7 Portugal will face Croatia, finalist of the last edition, Poland and Scotland.
In addition to League A, this meeting also made it possible to determine the groups of the three other divisions (Leagues B, C and D). Note that the 54 UEFA member associations participating in the league stage have been divided into four leagues based on their results in the 2022/2023 UEFA Nations League.
