Nearly $120k Raised For Crew Member Who Died On Marvel Studios’ ‘Wonder Man’ Set

UPDATED, 2/7: A Go Fund Me drive has already raised more than $115,000 for Juan Carlos Osorio, who died Tuesday after falling from a catwalk at Radford Studios.

“On February 6th, 2024, our friend Spike lost his life on the set of Marvels WonderMan shoot at CBS Radford studios due to a potential structural failure,” the fundraiser reads that was started by Bill Martel. “We are hoping the Production Company, The Facility, MBS, Marvel Studios handles things properly, but expect a long road fraught with attorney fees and expenses. In the mean time, bills will be mounting and the widow, Boom Operator Joanne W. will be left to deal with everything. Help if you’re able, it’s greatly appreciated.”

Several of the contributors are fellow IATSE members who wrote messages like “in solidarity” and “we take care of our own.”

PREVIOUSLY: A rigger working at Radford Studios in Studio City died today after falling from a catwalk, Deadline has learned. The male crew member, who died at the scene, was working on the set of Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man, but the series was not filming at the time.

The Los Angeles Police Department later confirmed and identified him as Juan Carlos Osorio, 41, of Temple City.

A Marvel spokesperson confirmed the news and added, “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident.”

“Everyone in the IA family is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We are working to support our member’s family, and his fellow members and colleagues,” added President Matthew D. Loeb. “Safety on set is our highest priority and we will assist Cal/OSHA in their investigation in any way that we can. Wonder Man is set to start its production next month after the studio had to delay the shoot due to the WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes.

Wonder Man stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and follows Simons Williams, who in the comics is a scion of wealthy industrialist, his company losing out to Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. Williams goes to work for the villain Baron Zemo who gives him ionic talents, that being extreme strength. Once an adversary of the Avengers, Wonder Man ultimately teams with them.
