The National Emergency Management Agency, Sokoto Zonal office, on Wednesday, visited some of the communities affected by banditry in Zamfara State.
The Head of Sokoto Operations Office, Mr Aliyu Kafindangi, led the team on an assessment of the situations of persons affected by the activities of the bandits.
The PUNCH reports that hundreds of households from communities across Maradun and Bakura Local Government Areas of Zamfara State have been displaced by bandits operating in the areas.
The Head of Sokoto Operations, speaking with our correspondent on the telephone on Thursday, said the team went to the state on an assessment tour.
He said “The bandits brutally attack villages to kidnap members of the communities and ask for ransom from villagers who are already impoverished due to the recurring attacks.
“Members of the affected villages had to run for their lives to take refuge with families and friends in Maradun and Bakura towns of the local government headquarters.
“Others made makeshift tents of grass to sustain their lives in these towns, while some are taking shelter in public schools.”
