Marco van Basten, the iconic striker who dazzled for Ajax, AC Milan, and the Dutch national team, has shared his critical views on Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski’s recent performances.
Despite leading the La Liga scoring charts with 16 goals, the Barcelona veteran has faced a dry spell, failing to score in his last three matches.
These games include two league fixtures against Leganes and Atletico de Madrid, as well as a Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund.
Van Basten’s criticism
Van Basten, now a commentator for Dutch television, did not hold back when discussing Lewandowski’s missed chance against Atletico Madrid.
The opportunity came in the 76th minute, with Ferran Torres delivering an assist, but Lewandowski was unable to convert the chance past goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

However, Van Basten’s critique did not stop at Lewandowski. He also turned his attention to Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid and their approach during the match.
The Dutchman expressed disappointment with the quality of play displayed by Atletico, suggesting that their performance lacked ambition and failed to reflect the standards expected of a top-tier team.
“Of course Atletico de Madrid is happy, but they should be ashamed when they play so badly,” he added.
While Lewandowski has been a reliable scorer for Barcelona this season, his current form has raised questions, especially in key matches where his contributions are most needed.
It goes without saying that Lewandowski will undoubtedly look to bounce back in the upcoming games, as the pressure is mounting to regain his scoring touch and prove his worth in crucial moments.
