New for L1 TV rights

The Professional Football League has not yet resolved the question of TV rights for Ligue 1 six months before the curtain rises for the new season. But the file is moving forward.

Who will broadcast Ligue 1 from next season? The question remains unanswered as the current deal with Amazon, Canal+ and beIN Sports expires in June. The initial call for tenders having not borne fruit last October, the Professional Football League is negotiating over-the-counter with interested broadcasters. At the forefront of which is DAZN.

The British platform is certainly the most determined since the discussions began. To the point of having already formulated and enhanced several proposals. The LFP, which still hopes to raise 800 to 900 million euros – including international rights – has not yet reached an agreement but the trend remains towards the allocation of all or part of the rights to DAZN.

BeIN back in the race

In recent weeks, however, there is a man who behind the scenes has convinced beIN Sports to return to the battle: Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the boss of PSG, well placed to know what is at stake in this call for tenders. The Qatari persuaded his fellow director of beIN Sports, Youssef Al-Obaidly, to take a position. RMC evoking a possible deal for a package including an exclusive match – potentially that of Friday evening – and two co-broadcast with DAZN.

Here again, negotiations would have started and would be going well. It remains to be seen whether Amazon Prime Video plans to invest or not, the managers of the American platform having simply clarified at this time that they could not afford to again invest 250 million euros per year (which allows them to broadcast seven matches out of ten currently). Finally, one thing, Canal+ will pass. But the group now benefits from agreements with beIN and DAZN which it only asks to renew.
