Liverpool are currently searching for Jurgen Klopp’s replacement to take over at the end of the season.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has proposed a fresh name that might succeed the 56-year-old at Anfield.

Following his incredible season at Bayer Leverkusen, it is commonly believed that Xabi Alonso, a former Reds midfielder, is Liverpool’s top pick to succeed Klopp this summer.

Die Werkself are now unbeaten in all competitions and are top of the Bundesliga standings, eight points ahead of Bayern Munich, thanks to the Spaniard’s leadership.

Alonso’s return to Merseyside at the conclusion of the season is not assured, though, as Julian Nagelsmann, the manager of the Germany national team, and Roberto De Zerbi, the manager of Brighton & Hove Albion, are among the potential contenders for the Anfield job.

However, former Liverpool central defender Jamie Carragher has added another possible name to the mix, claiming to have heard Benfica manager Roger Schmidt mentioned in relation to the Liverpool position.

In conversation with RedmenTV Plus, Carragher stated: “There’s the guy at Benfica that I’ve heard mentioned, Roger Schmidt. Who I think has got that link to the sort of Red Bull school…

“I think when people are mentioning him, it’s almost sort of the style is similar to Klopp’s style, so you think, ‘okay, would that be a good fit and would you have to change that much?'”

In the Champions League last season, Schmidt made an impression with Benfica, leading the team to the quarterfinals after defeating Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus in their group.

The 56-year-old is vying for the Primeira Liga title this season with Sporting CP, a Lisbon team managed by Ruben Amorim, another possible managerial candidate for Liverpool.

Schmidt is renowned for using a hard-charging, high-pressing approach that is similar to Klopp’s at Liverpool.
