The wait for the return of domestic football is finally over as the annual curtain-raiser is upon us.
Australian referee Jarred Gillet will take charge of Saturday’s Community Shield clash between Manchester United and Man City at Wembley.
The latest on the referee comes in an announcement from the Football Association.
John Brooks, who was originally appointed to take charge of the game, picked up an injury and has been forced to miss the all-Manchester clash.
Gillet has been promoted from fourth official to referee, with Sam Barrott installed as the new fourth official.
Although officially classified as a friendly, the Community Sheidl offers teams a chance for the first piece of silverware to start off their season.
We expect both teams to field strong line-ups as they won’t want to hand over bragging rights.
