The June 7th edition of Friday Night SmackDown had a lot of things going for it but WWE decided to have more surprises for fans after the show ended, as they crowned a new Speed champion.
The Speed Championship debuted earlier this year, opening up the opportunity for male superstars from all three WWE brands to vie for the title. Matches on Speed have a strict time limit of five minutes and are aired on X/Twitter. In the April 2024 tapings of Speed, Ricochet emerged as the inaugural Speed Champion, triumphing over Johnny Gargano in the final match.
During the recent tapings for upcoming episodes of WWE Speed, two key matches took place. In the first match, Andrade faced off against Tommaso Ciampa, securing a victory and earning a title shot at Ricochet for the WWE Speed Championship.
In the subsequent title match, Andrade challenged Ricochet and emerged victorious, thus becoming the new WWE Speed Champion. Many fans might not be happy with this decision as they feel Andrade deserves better than the WWE Speed Championship.
We will have to wait and see whether WWE will end up having something substantial planned for the Mexican Superstar eventually, as the WWE Speed Championship might not be the best direction.
