It ended Newcastle 2 Tottenham 1.
Not the easiest of watches.
United starting well but when there was a lengthy delay after around quarter of an hour for the fourth official to replace the injured linesman, Eddie Howe’s side were knocked off their stride.
Nevertheless, Kelly setting Barnes up for a smart finish on 37 minutes only for Nick Pope and his defence to gift a second half equaliser.
Newcastle not at their best but some gritty defending and superb saves from Nick Pope set United up for a 78th minute winner from Isak, Murphy getting the assist.
Looking at the individuals in black and white, interesting to get an independent perspective on how this played out.
‘Whoscored ratings use data from every single Premier League match, over 200 raw statistics included in the automated calculation of a player’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game.
Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.’
Now whoscored have published their independent player ratings for this Newcastle 2 Tottenham 1 match:
As you can see, seven players in total getting a rating of 7.0 or higher and all of them are Newcastle United players!
I am as biased as the next man (or woman) but not sure how this is the outcome.
As I said earlier, Nick Pope (7.6) was superb apart from that conceded goal, so I can’t argue with him getting MOTM in these ratings.
Plenty of effort from Alexander Isak (7.5) and he got the winning goal.
Whilst Barnes (7.4), Livramento (7.4) and Kelly (7.3) did well.
Very harsh on Dan Burn (6.3), I thought he did well and my view of their goal wasn’t great but I didn’t think much he could have done about it.
