Newcastle United are hoping to finalise a deal to sign James Trafford from Burnley.
Newcastle are keen on signing the 21-year-old goalkeeper this summer and they have already had a £16 million bid rejected for the player back in June. They are hoping to secure his signature for a fee of over £20 million today.
Newcastle United director Paul Mitchell recently watched the player in action at the weekend and they are now looking to make a fresh approach for the goalkeeper.
Newcastle are looking to bring in a quality goalkeeper before the window closes. They want to add more quality and depth to that position and Trafford will be expected to compete with Nick Pope for the starting spot. The 21-year-old is highly rated across the country and he has a bright future ahead of himself. He could develop into a key player for Newcastle in the long term.

Chelsea and Liverpool eyeing James Trafford
The opportunity to move to the Premier League club will be quite attractive for the player and he will hope that the two clubs can finalise an agreement. The former Manchester City Academy graduate is thought to be on the radar of Chelsea and Liverpool as well.
According to Daily Mail, the two English clubs have been monitoring the 21-year-old shot-stopper. It will be interesting to see if they come forward with an offer to sign him.
Chelsea have already invested in Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders this summer. It would be quite surprising if they decided to invest in another goalkeeper this summer. Similarly, Liverpool completed a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. It is unlikely that they will make a move for the English keeper.
Newcastle could have a free run at Trafford and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done.
