Newcastle United are keen on signing the Fiorentina attacker Nico Gonzalez.

According to a report from Calciomercato, the Magpies are looking to improve their attacking unit with the signing of the Argentine international.

The 26-year-old has proven his quality in Serie A and he managed to score 15 goals and pick up five assists in all competitions last season.

Gonzalez is versatile enough to operate in the attacking midfield roles as well as in the wide areas. He is capable of slotting in as the false nine as well. He could prove to be a quality acquisition for Newcastle as they look to beef up their attacking options.

Nico Gonzalez would be a quality addition for Newcastle

The Magpies were overly dependent on Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon for goals and they need more quality in the final third. Gonzalez would be a superb option for them. The 26 year-old recently helped Argentina win the Copa America, and he will look to try out a new challenge at the stage of his career.

The opportunity to move to the Premier League will be quite exciting for him. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle follow up on their interest with an official proposal to sign the player.

The report from Calciomercato claims that Newcastle have already received a green signal from the players representatives that he is open to a potential move this summer. It will be interesting to see if they can secure an agreement with the Italian club now.

They missed out on Champions League football last season and Newcastle will be desperate to finish in the top four and do well in the domestic competitions. They will need to plug the gaps in their squad this summer and signing a quality attacker should be one of their priorities.
