Newcastle United are keen on signing the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The 24-year-old has established himself as a reliable performer in the Premier League and a number of English clubs are keeping tabs on his development.
According to a report from Daily Mail, Newcastle have now taken the first steps to sign the player. They have made an approach to Crystal Palace and they will have to pay in excess of £60 million to get the deal done.
Newcastle need to improve their defensive unit this summer and the former Chelsea Academy graduate would be a solid acquisition. He has all the attributes to develop into a top-class player and he will want to join a club capable of pushing for trophies in the coming seasons.
Newcastle have an ambitious project and they have the resources to sign the best players. Guehi is likely to be attracted to the idea of joining them.
However, the asking price could be a major problem. Newcastle might want to sign him for a more reasonable price this summer. It remains to be seen whether Crystal Palace are ready to lower their demands.
