Manchester United have been linked with an array of centre-backs this summer. After signing Leny Yoro and watching his suffer a bad injury during the pre-season tour, the Reds remain in the market for a new defender while one previous target is on his way to Newcastle.

Marc Guehi, 24, continues to be heavily linked with an exit from Crystal Palace following his impressive performances last season.

The England international replaced Harry Maguire in Gareth Southgate’s side at Euro 2024, playing in the heart of defence alongside Man City’s John Stones.

Despite being linked with a move to United for over a year, it sounds like Guehi is leaving Palace for another Premier League club.

The Athletic claims Newcastle have started negotiations with Palace over the transfer of Guehi.

According to Sky Sports, Eddie Howe has made centre-back a priority target this summer and Guehi fits the profile of what he is looking for – right sided, but someone who can also play on the left.

The report claims the Magpies are the first to enter ‘meaningful talks’ with the Eagles, after receiving the bid earlier this week.

Palace are looking to pocket approximately £65m for Guehi’s signature, as per the Daily Mail. His potential transfer fee would’ve considerably risen over recent months given his growing stature in the game.

Guehi has two years left to run on his contract at Selhurst Park.

It is understood that United have verbally agreed personal terms with two centre-backs, but Ten Hag is only likely to land one of them.

Everton are currently pricing Jarrad Branthwaite out of a dream move to Old Trafford, while United are in talks with Bayern Munich over a deal for Matthijs de Ligt.

With Yoro out for three months, it’s essential we get a top quality centre-back in the door. Even if it means competition for Yoro when he returns. Competition is healthy.
