For more than two years at Newcastle, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, president of the club, has been in a bad situation. The Saudi will have to face a trial according to documents consulted by The Athletic. He is accused of orchestrating a “malicious” campaign against Dr Saad Aljabri, former head of Saudi intelligence. Aljabri, who fled his country in 2017 for Canada, wants to send the Newcastle president to a Canadian court for actions against him with the aim of “harming, silencing and ultimately destroying”.

For these accusations, Yasir Al-Rumayyan risks up to 59 million pounds sterling, or €68 million. The revelation could cause even more embarrassment for Newcastle bosses. This is not the first time since the takeover of Newcastle, Yasir Al-Rumayyan and the PIF (Saudi Public Investment Fund) have been put in the spotlight.
