WhatsApp leaks reveal Mohammed bin Salman allegedly orchestrated the 2021 takeover of Newcastle United, contradicting guarantees provided to the Premier League. However, this will not relaunch the investigation.
A WhatsApp exchange, revealed by The Telegraphshakes Newcastle United. Amanda Staveley, former director of the club, admits half-heartedly that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman would have personally orchestrated the takeover of the club in 2021. This information contradicts the guarantees given to the Premier League, which affirmed that the Kingdom of Arabia Saudi Arabia does not directly control the club.
Premier League will not relaunch takeover investigation
These revelations come as Saudi Arabia’s interest in Newcastle appears to have waned, thanks to the rise of the Saudi Pro League. Despite these leaks, the Premier League does not intend to reopen the investigation into the legality of the takeover of Newcastle by the Saudi sovereign fund (PIF).
According to The Daily MailEnglish football authorities were aware of some high-level interactions at the time, but this did not influence their final decision during the test of the club’s owners and directors.
