Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit to hire Dan Ashworth as sporting director.
The news broke on Tuesday night that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos Group had identified Ashworth, formerly of Brighton, as their No.1 target to become the club’s new sporting director.
Ineos intend to bring the best in class to United and that sits well with me. Ashworth is regarded as a shrewd operator when it comes to recruitment in football, so he would be a welcome addition to help drive the future of our football club.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Ashworth wants to leave Newcastle to take up the position at Old Trafford.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise because United – or Ineos – would not brief to the media that Ashworth was their primary target if they weren’t confident about getting him.
The MEN add that Ineos are so confident of landing Ashworth that they are no longer sounding out any other options.
Ashworth will be expected to serve a period of gardening leave before taking up a new role at United. The same happened when Ineos pinched Omar Berrada from Man City earlier this year.
