Ineos are planning for the summer ahead at Manchester United.
According to the Manchester Evening News, a decision has been made that means Matt Hargreaves will take control of United’s recruitment plans ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
Hargreaves has been United’s director of player negotiations having replaced Matt Judge in 2022. It is believed he was heavily involved in discussions when it came to new signings last summer, which I don’t think will fill many people with excitement.
Sources close to Stretty News haven’t always given the best of accounts when it came to Hargreaves, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was standing in until the moment he’s pushed out the door.
It was announced on Tuesday that John Murtough has left his post as football director after more than 10 years at Old Trafford.
Interestingly, the report outlines that there remains uncertainty over the long-term future of Hargreaves as United plan to hire Dan Ashworth as sporting director and Jason Wilcox as technical director.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe appears to be playing the waiting game with Newcastle, who are refusing to change their stance on receiving a ridiculous compensation package.
Samuel Luckhurst reporters: “Ashworth is on gardening leave at Newcastle and United are yet to make any headway in discussions over a severance package. Ashworth is not expected to be involved in recruitment this summer.”
Meanwhile, it doesn’t look like Wilcox’s departure at Southampton will drag on for too long.
United want Darren Fletcher to remain in some capacity, although the MEN believe he has yet to decide whether he wishes to stay on at the club after recent changes.
