Some interesting odds on Premier League top four (and other possibilities) for the 2024/25 season where Newcastle United are concerned.
With bookies taking stock after the weekend results, including that NUFC thrashing of Leicester.
A dominant performance seeing United win 4-0 and it could/should have been more.
That win coming in the sixteenth PL round of matches.
The bookies and punters reacting to how things now stand in the Premier League table (see below), as well of course, how they are now seeing the underlying strengths of the various teams and squads.
Listed below are the general Premier League odds now available from the various bookies for the 2024/25 season (in brackets are what the odds were after the opening round of PL games):
Win the Premier League:
8/11 (13/2) Liverpool
7/2 (40/1) Chelsea
4/1 (9/5) Arsenal
16/1 (11/8) Man City
500/1 (66/1) Aston Villa
500/1 (33/1) Tottenham
500/1 (28/1) Man U
750/1 (40/1 Newcastle United
750/1 (1,500/1) Forest
1,000/1 (200/1) Brighton
1,000/1 (1,500/1) Bournemouth
So Newcastle United now rated joint eighth most ‘likely’.
At the very top, Liverpool remain favourites, whilst Chelsea are now second favourites, the only one of the top four (as things stood before the weekend) to win their match. Manchester City now distant 16/1 fourth favourites as they lost yet again, this time late on at home to Man U in a woeful match.
This is how the Premier League table looks today (Monday 16 December 2024):
Premier League relegation:
1/16 (1/1) Southampton
8/13 (10/11) Ipswich
4/6 (1/2) Leicester
5/6 (7/2) Wolves
7/2 (5/2) Everton
10/1 (10/1) Palace
10/1 (12/1) Man City
22/1 (20/1) West Ham
66/1 (7/1) Brentford
300/1 (3/1) Forest
300/1 (11/2) Fulham
300/1 (200/1) Villa
300/1 (40/1) Brighton
400/1 (7/1) Bournemouth
450/1 (40/1) Chelsea
500/1 (250/1) Tottenham
500/1 (250/1) Newcastle United
500/1 (250/1) Man U
2,000/1 (2,000/1) Liverpool
2,000/1 (2,000/1) Arsenal
Eddie Howe’s team now seen as joint fourth least likely to go down in the 2024/25 season.
If you are wondering about the Man City 10/1 odds of relegation, this is due to the possibility (probability?) of severe punishment from the 115 Premier League charges they face, which could include amongst other sanctions, points deduction or even relegation. That case is ongoing. Though there again, the way their current form is going on the pitch as well now…
Finish Premier League top four:
1/50 (1/2) Liverpool
1/20 (1/9) Arsenal
1/10 (9/4) Chelsea
1/2 (1/7) Man City
13/2 (9/4) Tottenham
15/2 (2/1) Man U
10/1 (9/4) Newcastle United
11/1 (7/2) Villa
16/1 (11/1) Brighton
20/1 (100/1) Forest
28/1 (66/1) Bournemouth
40/1 (66/1) Fulham
100/1 (66/1) Brentford
This is where, like me, I guess you will be giving most focus.
Can Newcastle United bounce back into the Premier League top four and get Champions League football?
Well, the bookies now have NUFC seventh most likely, after that dominant win over Leicester.
The next Premier League match for Newcastle is against relegation zone Ipswich, can NUFC take advantage?
