Newcastle United really like Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, according to The Athletic journalist Chris Waugh.

The Magpies are expected to be active in the market to strengthen their squad this summer.

After the disappointments of this season in the Premier League and the Champions League, Eddie Howe is keen to make additions to his squad.

The Premier League club found it difficult to perform in the Champions League this season, while their injuries are largely the reason behind their inconsistent Premier League form.

The Tyneside club have still managed to turnaround their season in recent weeks, with the club now sitting in sixth position and qualification to Europe looking highly likely.

Forest midfielder Gibbs-White has impressed Newcastle this season but it remains to be seen if they will make a move for the English midfielder.

With Nottingham Forest looking to sell some of their players in order to comply with Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, Newcastle could get a chance to make a move for the midfielder.

Forest have still not secured their status in the Premier League and with two games remaining this season, they could face the possibility of getting relegated.

Morgan Gibbs-White has been linked Newcastle United.

In that scenario, it is difficult to see Gibbs-White stay at the club.

Newcastle have concerns of their own ahead of the summer transfer window. Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester City because of his release clause.

If they somehow lose the former Lyon midfielder in the summer, a move for Gibbs-White could become a certainty.

Newcastle United would love to sign Gibbs-White

However, Chris Waugh has admitted that the English midfielder will not be a like to like replacement of Guimaraes.

Forest are reportedly looking to get £60 million for their star midfielder if they are faced with the prospect of cashing in on him in the transfer window.

With six goals and eight assists this season, Gibbs-White has commanded the Forest midfield impressively and it is not a surprise to see clubs interested in signing him.
