Newcastle United announce pre-season return

Newcastle United have announced their return for pre-season preparations.

Very little information has come out of the club this summer, apart from the bare essentials.

With until Thursday (11 July) morning, no news on when the players were heading back.

Just the five weeks to go now until the Premier League season kicks off, if you want to be pedantic, that is 37 days until Newcastle United play Southampton.

Ahead of that a friendly at Hull in 16 days time (27 July) had been announced, followed by two games in Japan, before the usual double header weekend at St James’ Park a week ahead of the season kicking off.

Before then though, widely reported that Newcastle United are going for a week or so to stay at Adidas’ headquarters in Herzogenaurach, the world-class facilities at the Bavarian town in Germany are among the best in the world. Other clubs from England and overseas also regularly take advantage of their partnership with Adidas.

Sky Sports amongst those who have reported that Eddie Howe and his squad will travel to the Adidas HQ for a week or so this month, with potentially one or more friendlies set to be played whilst they are there. As I say though, nothing from the club about that as yet.

…and Lloyd Kelly are amongst those first team squad members who are now back at the training ground and preparing for the season ahead.

Dates for Newcastle United fans to note (Premier League live TV choices up to end of September 2024 now announced):

Early July 2024 – The Newcastle United first-team squad set to return to start pre-season preparations.

Early July 2024 – Expected release of 2024/25 Newcastle United away shirt/kit

Wednesday 10 July 2024 – England (Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon) v Holland for a place in the 2024 Euros final – 8 pm kick-off in Dortmund

Sunday 14 July 2024 – European Championships final with Spain v England and potentially Kieran Trippier and/or Anthony Gordon involved.

Mid/later July 2024 – Sky Sports report that Newcastle United will spend a week doing pre-season training in Germany (before Hull and Japan friendlies), still awaiting official confirmation of this, as well as news of any match(es) whilst the squad is over there

Saturday 27 July 2024 – Hull City v Newcastle United friendly, 2pm kick-off.

Wednesday 31 July 2024 – Urawa Red Diamonds v Newcastle United friendly in Japan, playing at the 62,000 capacity Saitama Stadium, the largest football-specific stadium in Japan.

Early August 2024 – Release of 2024/25 Newcastle United third shirt / kit

Saturday 3 August 2024 – Yokohama F Marinos v Newcastle United friendly at the National Stadium in Toyko.

Friday 9 August 2024 – Newcastle United v Girona FC friendly 7.30pm kick-off (SJP Sela weekend)

Saturday 10 August 2024 – Newcastle United Women v TBC 1pm kick-off (SJP Sela weekend)
