An update on the Newcastle United contract front.

With news on the NUFC goalkeeping front.

Loris Karius will be leaving in the summer and very likely Martin Dubvravka will be too.

United number one Nick Pope expected to return shortly and Eddie Howe to be bringing in a new keeper this summer to challenge and supply back up to Pope.

As for third / fourth choice back up, The Mail revealing (see below) that the club have activated a one year extension to Mark Gillespie’s contract. The 32 year old Newcastle United fan has sat on the first team bench for 13 matches this season but seen no action.

If Newcastle United are to have a quartet of keepers next season, same as this current one, interesting to see if Eddie Howe and his staff are seeing any long-term first team potential in any of the young goalkeepers at the club.

The Mail report – 26 April 2024:

‘Mark Gillespie will be staying at Newcastle for at least one more year, Notebook can reveal.

The club have now activated the option to extend his contract by 12 months, which could be an indicator that fellow goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is on his way this summer.

Loris Karius is set to leave and the Magpies are looking to sign one other keeper to compete with Nick Pope. Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale is on the shortlist, among others.

Gillespie, 32, has not played during the last two seasons – he made three League Cup appearances in 2020/21 – but he is well liked in the dressing-room and by backroom staff.

Dubravka, 35, will have one year on his contract come June and he could look for a new club.’

With this Mark Gillespie news, I have listed below what appears to be the current contract positions now for these 32 Newcastle United players and 14 of them at the moment see their current contracts end within the next 14 months.

Whilst at the other end of the scale, 11 have at least three years and a couple of months remaining on their contract, the other seven in the middle of the two extremes, having just over two years to go.

Lewis Hall of course will be added to those with plenty  years left on his contract, when his loan move becomes permanent this summer.

End of June 2025:
