Newcastle United will demand in excess of £150 million from Arsenal to sell Alexander Isak this summer, according to reports.
After narrowly missing out on the Premier League title on the final day of the season, Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his squad in the summer transfer window.
A new central striker is on Arsenal’s wishlist with Isak under consideration alongside Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres, while Brentford’s Ivan Toney has also been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, The Telegraph reports that Newcastle are not contemplating selling Isak this summer, with Eddie Howe considering the Sweden international as a focal part of his future plans.
The report claims that Newcastle have ‘laughed’ at reports suggesting that a £90m offer would be accepted for Isak and that Arsenal would need to double that bid in order for discussions to take place.
Newcastle are also said to be ready to convince Isak that he should stay at St James’ Park in the event that Arsenal do make a move.
When asked about his future last month, Isak gave no indication that he would push for a move to Arsenal this summer.
‘Yeah, of course I want to be here in the future,’ Isak said.
‘I came here for the project, I absolutely love playing here, I really feel at home. I want to finish this season in a good way for me and the team. I love playing here.’
Meanwhile, Howe admits the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules have had a major impact on Newcastle’s transfer plans, which saw the club sell Allan Saint-Maximin to Al-Ahli in a deal worth around £30m last summer.
‘Financial Fair Play was hitting is, so we had to lose Maxi at that moment, and I think it was probably his time to leave, for him as well,’ Howe said on The Overlap earlier this month.
‘Then of course you’re looking to replace a player that was a difference-maker, you could never go like-for-like, I don’t know another Allan Saint-Maximin with his qualities, so you have to find someone different – Anthony [Gordon].
‘That’s probably where we are, we’re recruiting players at the moment that are up and coming, who haven’t hit their best levels yet, trying to get them early and develop them and grow into those players.’
