Newcastle United Sporting Director Paul Mitchell, has registered his first significant success.

Having been at the likes of Tottenham and Monaco, Mitchell filling the Dan Ashworth vacancy in early July 2024.

Fair to say that the new Newcastle United Sporting Director hasn’t had the smoothest of rides these past three and a half months at St James’ Park.

A summer 2024 transfer window that saw so many Newcastle United fans left frustrated when it closed, with only young raw striker Will Osula signed after Paul Mitchell was appointed.

However, a first significant success announced for the new man, with Anthony Gordon having signed an enhanced and extended contract, which is reported as a five year deal, up to 30 June 2029.

Paul Mitchell declaring ‘Developing, rewarding and retaining our talented young players is an essential part of building towards sustainable success, and Anthony has a big part to play as we strive to reach our ambitious targets.’

The Newcastle United Sporting Director now needs to follow this up, with further progress and successes in the near future.

The January 2025 transfer window desperately needs at least one new quality signing who will be an automatic first team starter, once settled in. Whilst Alexander Isak signed a new and extended contract would be another big feather in the cap for Paul Mitchell.

As we hopefully progress towards this ‘sustainable success’ that the Newcastle United Sporting Director speaks of.

Newcastle United Sporting Director, Paul Mitchell – 22 October 2024:

“Anthony Gordon is a top player with so much still ahead of him.

“We are all delighted that he is committed to the journey we are on at Newcastle United.

“Our staff have done a tremendous job in nurturing his talent and evolving his game.

“Anthony deserves so much credit for his commitment to pushing himself to be better and to achieve every day.

“Developing, rewarding and retaining our talented young players is an essential part of building towards sustainable success, and Anthony has a big part to play as we strive to reach our ambitious targets.”
