Newcastle United’s signing of Loris Karius seemed a particularly strange one in the summer of 2022 given his past performances and big-time errors during his Liverpool spell.
Football Insider sources indicate that Newcastle’s backup goalkeeper, Loris Karius, is unlikely to secure a new contract with the club. His current deal is scheduled to conclude in June.
Having initially joined the club on a free transfer in 2022, Karius earned a contract extension in 2023. However, Newcastle United will permit him to depart at the conclusion of this season.
This really comes as no surprise given his lack of quality to be a Premier League goalkeeper.
Karius gained notoriety in English football for two significant errors that contributed to Liverpool’s defeat in the 2018 Champions League final against Real Madrid.

During his tenure at St James’ Park, Karius has only featured in two matches for Newcastle. His debut for the club occurred in the League Cup final against Manchester United last year, a match that ended in a 2-0 victory for the Red Devils at Wembley.
In his second appearance, Karius experienced defeat as Newcastle suffered a 4-1 loss away at Arsenal last month.
The Magpies’ first choice shot-stopper Nick Pope continues to be sidelined due to injury since dislocating his shoulder in December. Martin Dubravka has been stepping in as the goalkeeper in his absence – which has lead to Karius moving up from third choice keeper to Eddie Howe’s backup keeper.
