Newcastle United will make a fresh attempt to sign £30m Arsenal outcast Aaron Ramsdale in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Eddie Howe’s side tried to bring in Ramsdale in January after Nick Pope’s injury but despite the goalkeeper being keen on the move, he stayed in north London.
Ramsdale knows Howe well from their time together at AFC Bournemouth and he is desperate for more regular playing time after losing his spot to David Raya.
The Magpies are seeking a new ‘keeper with back-up Martin Dubravka largely failing to impress since stepping into the XI, conceding three goals last time out.
Ramsdale looks set to leave Arsenal this summer, the Daily Mail have reported, and the England international is thought to be currently assessing his options.
Newcastle, meanwhile, like the look of Ramsdale due to the fact he is only 25-years-old – with their current ‘keepers Dubravka and Pope aged 35 and 32.
Arsenal are already looking for replacements for Ramsdale, with the Gunners scouting Las Palmas star Alvaro Valles and Columbus Crew’s Patrick Schulte.
Arsenal legend David Seaman feels Ramsdale is ‘too good to be a No.2’ and admits he may have to depart the Emirates to get his career back on track.
‘You’ve got to remember what Aaron has done for Arsenal,’ Seaman said. ‘He’s got the following of the fans, everyone knows what he’s done for Arsenal.
‘I don’t want him to go. But for me, he’s too good to be a No.2. He’s still young, he’s only 24, and he’s got a lot of time to play more games and then keeping pushing for his England spot.’
