Ever since Neymar left Barcelona back in the summer of 2017 to sign for PSG in a world-record deal worth €222 million, rumours of a return have been doing the rounds almost every transfer window.
The Brazilian’s comeback to Catalonia was a serious possibility back in 2019, but the Catalans ended up signing Antoine Griezman instead.
But, links between the two parties have not ceased as Neymar was heavily rumoured to be returning last year when left PSG but ended up at Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Reports this past summer also suggested that the Brazilian superstar had offered his services to the club, who were looking for a prolific left-winger.
Neymar to Barcelona next year?
Now, SPORT’s Joaquim Piera states that there could be a scenario wherein Neymar might end up returning to Barcelona in the summer of 2025.
As things stand, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is eyeing a ‘bombshell’ signing for next summer to celebrate the return to Spotify Camp Nou but also give his re-election campaign a boost.
The name of Erling Haaland of Manchester City has long been touted as the preferred option, but Neymar’s return could also become a possibility.
The Brazilian superstar is out of contract at Al-Hilal at the end of the ongoing season and reports in Brazil have suggested that he would fancy a return to Europe for one year so as to prepare himself for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Neymar will be free to negotiate with the club of his choice from January and reach a pre-contract agreement over a free transfer in the summer.
Furthermore, Barça have forged a strong bond with Pini Zahavi, who played an integral role in Neymar’s transfer to PSG seven years ago and might help facilitate the attacker’s return. It could end up being the ace up their sleeve.
It must be noted that it is merely a possibility that could be considered and that there is nothing concrete at this point.
