The NFL is heading down under and has designated the Los Angeles Rams as the host team for its first-ever regular season game in Australia.

Melbourne Cricket Ground will be where the Rams face off against their opponent in 2026, with the exact date and time set to be announced later.

“Expanding to Melbourne, Australia, a beautiful city with a rich sports history, underlines our ambitions to become a global sport and accelerate international growth,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “Together with the Victorian State Government, Visit Victoria and the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and with the Los Angeles Rams in 2026, we look forward to making history in what is an important market for the NFL and a significant next step in expanding our international footprint.”

Australia is said to have a growing NFL fan base of 6.6 million. The Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles hold marketing rights in Australia to help build awareness. NFL has hosted 55 regular season games internationally in cities like Mexico City, Toronto, London, Munich, Frankfurt, and São Paulo.

“NFL fans will love Melbourne’s culture, food, sport and entertainment. From hidden laneways to blockbuster events, there’s always something new on show,” said Victoria Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the NFL to be played on the hallowed turf of the MCG.”

For the 2025 season, the NFL will play games in London, Berlin, and Madrid.
