The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has expressed its condolences over the tragic death of 105 people following a tanker explosion that occurred on Tuesday in Majiya town, Jigawa State.

In a statement personally signed by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Forum, on Wednesday, it read, “The Nigeria Governors’ Forum is deeply saddened by the reported death of 105 persons in Tuesday’s petrol tanker explosion in Majiya town, Jigawa State.

“The Forum extends its heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Jigawa State over this tragic incident, especially to the families who lost their loved ones and those injured in the fire.”

The NGF expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the incident and urged citizens to avoid taking advantage of petrol spills due to its volatility and the imminent danger it poses.

“This unfortunate event highlights the urgent need for enhanced safety protocols in the handling of combustible materials such as petrol, particularly in unforeseen circumstances like accidents,” the Forum stated.

“Our thoughts are with His Excellency Governor Umar Namadi, the people of Jigawa State, and the families affected by this tragedy. We pray to Almighty Allah to grant them solace during this difficult time and admit the deceased to Al-Jannah Firdaus,” the statement concluded.

The explosion reportedly occurred at approximately 11:30 pm on Tuesday in Majiya town when the tanker driver lost control of the vehicle near Khadija University.

The tanker, which was en route to Nguru town in Yobe State, exploded after the driver lost control.

It was reported that after the incident, some individuals attempted to scoop fuel, which led to the tragic loss of many lives.
