Bayley’s journey as WWE Women’s Champion faced a formidable challenge from Nia Jax at SummerSlam 2024 on August 3 at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Heading into the match, Nia Jax was the betting favourite, especially after boosting her momentum on the August 2 episode of SmackDown by gifting Tiffany Stratton a new Money in the Bank briefcase.
Despite Jax’s size advantage, Bayley managed to land a suplex and several knockdowns. The match swung in Jax’s favour as she took control, but Bayley kept fighting, even sending Jax to the floor.
In a dramatic sequence, Bayley knocked Tiffany Stratton off the apron and attempted a roll-up pin on Jax, who kicked out. Jax then delivered two powerbombs, followed by two Annihilator moves, securing her victory and the championship.
At the post-show press conference, The Irresistible Force reflected on her monumental win and expressed gratitude to WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque for giving her the opportunity after being away from the company for a year and cited it as an incredible journey back to championship glory.
“It’s pretty incredible. A year ago, it was a different position for me. But I am so grateful to Triple H for taking a chance on me. Not just a year ago but ten years ago when he hired me here. So, it’s been an incredible journey and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
With Nia Jax reigning at the top of the SmackDown women’s division now, we will have to wait and see who steps up to her in their quest to slither the title away from the dominant force.
