Nic Nemeth is having a blast with his latest project.

Nemeth, the current TNA World Champion, recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. Nic and his brother, Ryan, recently launched their own podcast, The Nemeth Bros, with PodcastOne. Nic says the reception has been very positive so far, and it’s giving both of them another fun and creative outlet to work together.

“It’s pretty awesome,” Nemeth explained. “This is one of those things where we don’t have some crazy [number, like a] million people following it. But so far, it’s been annoyingly positive, the feedback. Like, there’s no one going, ‘How come you didn’t do this? How come you didn’t talk about…?’ Everyone is like, ‘Oh this was great! Oh, this is a nice side of Jeff [Tremaine, their guest on episode 3] that we have never seen. The story that you are telling is insane. I can’t believe you are doing it right now to everybody.’ So, it’s a really fun thing that we are doing.”

Nic Nemeth on The Nemeth Bros timeline

Nemeth says getting the show to happen took a considerable amount of time, as it’d been discussed for a few years. Nic and Ryan discussed making a YouTube page, and he noted how they’d collaborated on his 2023 “Wanted Man” short film, which featured an homage to Evil Dead. He also didn’t want to do it through WWE’s channels because they’d always own a piece of it. Nemeth wasn’t trying to burn any bridges, but wanted to have control of his content.

“I didn’t want to do it with WWE because, when they were asking for ideas a long time ago for Network shows, for shows, podcasts, everything, I pitched a bunch of stuff. And every step of the way was, ‘Well, if I’m out of here next year, they will always have a chunk of it, or they will have a say in what we are talking about.’ And that’s not bad for some people,” Nemeth explained.

“When I do Nic Nemeth stuff, I’m doing my stuff. Now, I understand that I work for TNA and a couple of other places too, where I represent them. But I think 20 years of goodwill here of not burning any bridges is because I respect where I work, I love my stuff,” he continued. “I just wanted to do my own thing, the Nemeth Bros thing together. I didn’t want them going, ‘Well, you can’t really discuss that, you can’t make fun of this guy.’ Then we are kind of being phony, you know? So, it’s been fun as hell to do it so far.”

Nic Nemeth on Jeff Tremaine

The Nemeth Bros welcomed Jeff Tremaine to the show on episode 3, and Nemeth said it highlighted how lucky they are to have guests of that stature.

“He has done some of the coolest most outrageous stuff that I love. He made The Dirt, the [movie based on the Motley Crue book] that I love. I am jealous of everything. And we got to work together, my brother trains him, we’re buddies, and just his life and everything he does is always something cool,” Nemeth explained. “Some people have to take projects like, ‘Well, I had to do this one project for my buddy. I had to do this one to get paid. And now I get to go do my dream project.’ He does all the cool stuff. The Jackass stuff, the stuff we did with WWE was so fun and so stupidly funny.”

Nemeth said the point of their show is to have fun and get outside of the wrestling bubble a bit, as there are countless shows dedicated to that already.

“We get to bring them on a podcast, just talking. It’s not a wrestling podcast,” Nic Nemeth explained. “We have a bunch of entertainment stories and I have a 20 year book that is slowly being written. So, this helps me bring out a couple of chapters and write it down in my notes when we get going. So, it really helps me slowly relive some stuff and bring it back out while telling fun road stories and everything else.”

“I enjoyed the last 20 years, I love what I am doing now,” he continued. “I love that we can tell these stories and not have to be like, ‘Was that okay?’ I’ve earned that respect where I can talk about stuff and not get anyone in trouble. Not burn bridges. But it’s great to be able to have no topics off the table because a company told you to when you are just doing a fun project.”

Nic Nemeth on sharing the stage and sharing the ring with his brother

Nemeth has shared the stage and screen with his brother before, but they (finally) got to share the ring this year. Nemeth said there definitely is a difference between having chemistry on those respective platforms. However, the brothers complement each other in both areas.

“When we do a HunkaMania and just go do our things, we could wing it out there and play off each other and bust each other’s balls. ‘It will be okay.’ But we go painstakingly through steps and run through pieces and go, ‘What if I came out now? How about when you answer this one…?’ ‘From here, we get to here.’ Other than the Q&A, we plan out stuff and we try and make it seem like it’s on the fly,” he explained. “When it comes to the comedy stuff and riffing and doing somethings, he’s crushing it and it makes me so mad.”

“But also, I have been doing a lot more wrestling than he his. So, it’s like, we kind of yin and yang each other, Nemeth continued. “The chemistry is mentally there, but I wouldn’t pretend, ‘Oh if we get one against the Hardy’s in a tag team match, it would be back and forth like this.’ Those guys are running on five decades of tagging together and Ryan and I have had two matches together. So, I’m blown away. I was fully prepared to yell and say, ‘This is wrong. Or we got to fix this.’ And one match in, I was just like, ‘Oh, wow.’

“The mental part of this business totally translates whether we’ve tagged or not. So it was a huge thing. What a huge jump,” he added, “but we are miles away from what a well-oiled tag team would be. But looking forward to getting a few more reps in soon.”

New episodes of The Nemeth Bros podcast air on Thursdays on PodcastOne, or wherever you listen to podcasts.
