Beaten at home on Friday evening by Montpellier (1-2, 25th day of Ligue 1), Nice continues to sink slowly but surely.

The opportunity was great, but OGC Nice did not take advantage of it. In difficulty and remaining in five matches in a row without the slightest victory in the championship, the Aiglons hoped to take advantage of the reception of Montpellier on Friday evening at the Allianz Riviera, to redo their cherry. The ace. Unable to take the measure of a team which nevertheless occupied the play-off position (16th) before kick-off, the Niçois were beaten (1-2, 25th day). The crisis is well and truly established.

After a draw in Brest (0-0), a defeat against Monaco (2-3) then another in Lyon (1-0), before a draw against Clermont (0-0) and finally a setback in Toulouse (2 -1), the OGC Nice was sinking slowly but surely. Runner-up to PSG a few weeks ago, Francesco Farioli’s men lost their football. Friday evening against Montpellier, they therefore had a very worrying sixth match without success in Ligue 1. And the visitors did not need to force much since it was Todibo who opened the scoring against his camp in the tenth minute of game (0-1).

Europe on the dotted lines

Brought back afloat by Boga two minutes later (1-1, 12th), the Aiglons did not however take the measure of their opponents and fell back just before the break following a penalty generously conceded to the Montpellier residents, judging that the Laborde’s gesture with a ball touched by his arm, was voluntary. Savanier did not procrastinate and gave his team the lead again (1-2, 42nd).

Nice will then dominate the second half head and shoulders, still coming close to the correction on a shot from Savanier that was ultimately off target (55th). Unfortunately for them, the Aiglons never found the fault, like this decisive save from Lecomte on a shot from Guessand in stoppage time (90th + 3). In the stands, Nice supporters displayed a banner saying: “Not another year without Europe. Move on. » They were not heard and if Nice remains fifth this evening, it could well lose another place if Lens wins against Brest this Saturday (9 p.m.). As for Montpellier, it temporarily rises to twelfth place, two points ahead of Le Havre (16th and play-off).
