The future of Nico Williams has been at the heart of Athletic Club’s concerns since the start of the season.
After scoring in Spain’s Euro 2024 final win over England, the 22-year-old was the subject of much speculation and Barcelona were quick to sign him.
However, despite the constant rumors that the Catalans were getting closer to a deal, the trail did not come to fruition for the Blaugrana. With FC Barcelona still not having received a response from the winger on his intentions, they turned to Dani Olmo.
Bilbao wants to keep him
The August 12 date is crucial to Barcelona’s chances of reaching an agreement as Williams resumes pre-season training in Bilbao.
The Basque club leave Spain for two final friendlies this week, but Williams will not travel, with the club confident he will be ready for action at the start of the season. According to Marca, coach Ernesto Valverde is not hesitating to call on Williams for the first La Liga game, on August 15 at home to Getafe.
