The first female Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Abuja branch, Folake Odusiga has called for more leadership roles for women as she frowned against discrimination.

She made this known on Saturday while she was been honoured as the 13th chairman and the first female president of the Abuja branch.

Odusiga noted the significance of her position, stating, “In the past, we’ve never had a female chairman before. I think it’s about time for us to recognise the women in all aspects.”

She highlighted the unique strengths women bring to leadership roles, asserting, “When a woman is in leadership, the role of a woman is more significant when you compare it with that of a man.”

Reflecting on her journey, she expressed hope that her leadership would inspire other women to engage actively within the institution, mentioning, “In the past, our men didn’t want us to be in leadership.”

Odusiga believes that her election as chairman will pave the way for more female participation, reinforcing that “there will also be one day” for other women to rise in the ranks.

She noted that a key part of her vision for the branch includes advocating for younger generations.

“One of my visions is to encourage those younger ones in secondary school by carrying them along when they are young,” she said.

She emphasised the need for greater collaboration between public and private sectors within the profession.

Odusiga also underscored the importance of bridging the gap between the public and private sectors.

“As a public servant, my vision is also to bridge the gap between the public and private sector,” she stated, calling for increased involvement of public entities in the institution’s activities.

“Since the institution comprises the private and the public sector, it’s essential for collaboration to thrive,” she added.
