Nigel McGuinness says it’s not his time, regarding an in-ring return, but he remains interested in potentially facing AEW star Bryan Danielson.

Injuries derailed McGuinness’ in-ring career, and he was forced to retire in 2011. In recent years, he has remained involved as a commentary, and he joined AEW in 2023. He has teased a potential in-ring return, but it hasn’t happened yet.

In a new interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Nigel McGuinness was asked about potentially having a retirement match in AEW. He noted that he had dozens of matches in him. However, he said that it was not his time, unless he had a chance to face Bryan Danielson.

“I’ve got dozens more matches in me,” McGuinness said. “It’s just that, at this juncture in my life, and with so much talent in AEW, it’s not my time.

“Unless, of course, there’s a chance to prove I’m better than Bryan Danielson–and prove everything he got in his life was luck. To the millions–and millions–who weren’t watching Ring of Honor back then, that would be a chance for them to learn the truth.”

Nigel McGuinness previously said that he stepped back into a ring, and he felt okay. Check out his comments here.

McGuinness has also said that he enjoys belittling Danielson on commentary. Click here to see what he had to say.
