National Assembly member Akinlayo Kolawole has called for more selfless service and sacrifices from Nigerian leaders to accelerate the rapid development of the country.

Kolawole, a House of Representatives member representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, stated that “the country’s development must be the collective agenda of all and sundry, irrespective of our political inclinations and backgrounds.”

In a statement in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, on the occasion of Nigeria’s 64th independence celebration, the lawmaker urged all Nigerians “to continue to put Nigeria ahead of other personal agendas in our daily activities.”

He said, “The country, more than ever, needs selflessness, sacrifices, and sincerity, especially from leaders and politicians, for it to steadily move forward.

“The celebration of the country’s 64th Independence anniversary calls for sober reflection and, at the same time, stock-taking to examine where we were in the past and where we are now, in order to chart a new course for the future.

“It is only through our belief and determination to fast-track the development of Nigeria that we can achieve this; hence the need for all hands to be on deck to build a virile society.”

The lawmaker praised all past and present Nigerian leaders, especially the incumbent President Bola Tinubu, for their roles in the development and unity of the country.

He congratulated Nigerians on the 64th Independence anniversary and the people of Ekiti on the 28th anniversary of state creation, calling on them to pray for their leaders to lead well.

Kolawole hailed Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his exemplary leadership, “especially in terms of inclusive administration in the state. This has ensured economic and political stability.”

The federal lawmaker also praised the religious leaders across the country for their fervent prayers for the unity and progress of Nigeria, urging them not to relent.
