Nasarawa Amazons midfield sensation, Josephine Mathias
Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, and almost everyone who watched the Super Falcons against Algeria in a recent two-legged international friendly can testify that Nasarawa Amazons midfield sensation, Josephine Mathias, caught the attention of fans, being easy on the eyes, besides her savoir-faire.
The 24-year-old sent heads turning over the legs with her outstanding physique and artistry, first during the 2-0 win at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on October 26 and the corresponding tie that ended 4-1 in favour of the Super Falcons at Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, three days later.
Those were Josephine’s moments, and she has now joined Super Falcons players like Michelle Alozie, Rinsola Babajide, and Ashleigh Plumtree, who now have gained a cult-like following amongst fans because of their good looks and abilities.
Fierce, focused, and fearless, Josephine bossed the midfield for the Super Falcons with precision and power, holding fans spellbound with her physique, especially when backing the camera.
Her pictures have been major talking points amongst fans, especially males who, in the same vein, were mad over tennis icon Serena Williams for many years before sadly watching her end up in the arms of Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in 2017.
The pictures, including the one above, continue to provoke comments from fans, the following being the most pertinent.
“Josephine was the best female footballer in my hood growing up. They called her “Baby” back then. I am not surprised one bit that she’s now a full-blown Nigeria international. She is from a family of footballers. Her brother Samuel Mathias is a former Super Eagles B player too,” reckons Alan Smith.
Moolah79 was more enthralled by her savvy than physical attributes: “This girl’s ball touch and close control skills are impressive. Matthias, Oladapo, and Ijamilusi should be fast tracked to the main Super Falcons ASAP.”
@LtdShod2321 remarked, “This is our new jersey; too fine on the girls, na. I go dey watch Super Falcons now.”
“She’s good and has a lovely stature,” noted Shyvinny.
@gbolly038: “With this kind yansh??? She is better than Xavi and Iniesta combined.”
Taye Adigun: “Endowed and gifted.”
Akan Paul: “Can she be signed on a permanent deal so that her behind can be insured against attacking threats?”
Chukwudi Emmanuel: “May something big meet us all!”
Kingsley Egbule: “I like her physique; she’ll be a good addition to the Falcons A team.”
El-Hadji Prince Tolu Atoba: “I have to visit the Nasarawa Amazon camp to have an exclusive session with what I see in the picture, quite inviting. She was a delight to watch and very decisive. The future looks bright and good for her if she keeps her focus and remains cool-headed.”
Emmanuel Joseph Ekele: “Good performance from her.”
Azzaman Olaide Adekanmbi: “I beg you play me Mohbad music, Tittle-Backside.”
Victor Monday Atodo: “Complete African queen.”
Omosehin Nelson: “Very good.”
Shino Adamu Endabwedi: “Wow, I will love to watch her play.”
Gajereson Mathias Eddy: “Josephine Mathias, what a coincidence that’s my sister’s full name.”
Blessing David: “Keep making us proud. Your look and performance are confusing Nigeria at the moment, Baby Josephine Mathias.”
Unknown to many, Josephine is not a greenhorn in international football, having featured prominently in the 2020 CAF Women’s Olympic qualifiers between August and October 2019.
She has also tasted European football in the colours of Turkish Women’s First Football club Trabzon İdmanocağı, making six appearances for the club in the 2017-18 season and leaving them after being relegated to the Women’s Second League.
Josephine returned to Nigeria and signed first with Rivers Angels before she rejoined her current club.
