The National Chairman, African Democratic Congress, Ralph Nwosu stated that Nigeria has failed to fully showcase the vast potential within the country.

While speaking at The Next Big Thing Continental 2025, themed “AI Orchestration: The Conductor Approach,” on Thursday in Abuja, Nwosu highlighted the significance of the event’s theme.

The theme “reflects our collective commitment to embracing artificial intelligence, deepening its development and promoting its use in Nigeria and Africa,” Nwosu stated.

The ADC chairman said, “Without scapegoating any organisation or leaders, I’m certain there is a consensus that we have not given a good account of the great potentials that abound in our country and continent, both in human, material and climatic resonance. If we had, the lions symbolising our continent would have roared long ago, compelling the world to recognise Africa as the power centre of the world in all ramifications.

“The power of Nigeria or any nation within the continent of Africa, in comparison to any other part of the world, can only be likened to the lions that inhabit our lands. Our young men and women of many generations have flourished in different ways, but for many years now, they have primarily excelled outside our shores. However, a new wave is taking place, and TNBTC takes note of it.

“We are committed to ensuring that the bright spots—signposting energy, creativity, innovation, courage and character—are harmonised into an orchestra that will resonate across the world. By the grace of God, Africa will no longer be missing in action. The men and women representing the organisations we honour at this inaugural event, and subsequent ones, represent the ablest conductors who will illuminate our world.

“Infrastructure and security are critical to Africa’s journey. Some leaders have already shown great commitment to leading the way. Knowledge, creativity and innovation lead in the modern world. Many in our continent are excelling in Fintech, technology and engineering. Today, communication and multimedia solutions and systems have become high economic drivers synonymous with development. We have men and women of influence leading legacy projects that are ‘above and beyond’ imagination, providing jobs, projecting our nations and reinforcing our economies.”

The event, hosted by Digital Oxygen Hub in partnership with the Cosmopolitan University Collaborative Centre for Artificial Intelligence, highlighted the significance of machine learning.

Nwosu stressed its growing importance for both individuals and organisations, saying, “Our commitment goes beyond hosting AI summits such as this one. We aim to ensure that across institutions, agencies and educational establishments, relevant research and personalised data reflecting our realities are thoroughly and regularly documented and uncompromised.”

In his address, the event’s Chairman, Maj-Gen. Nnaemeka Maduegbunam (retd.) encouraged Nigerians to embrace the AI trend, describing it as a transformative force that is reshaping the world, with impacts in healthcare, finance, agriculture, among others.
