The National Information Technology Development Agency has announced the launch of the 2024 Digital Nigeria Innovation Challenge, aimed at addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges through technology and innovation.
The technology agency said in a statement obtained from its website on Monday that the competition offered N11m in cash prizes, with participants expected to create digital solutions that drive sustainable development across the country.
NITDA explained that the competition would empower innovators to develop digital maps that highlight critical infrastructure in Nigerian states, including hospitals, schools, roads, and utilities.
According to the agency, the maps will provide valuable insights to foster development across various sectors.
“The 2024 Digital Nigeria Innovation Challenge aims to harness the power of technology and innovation to address critical infrastructure challenges in Nigeria.
“Participants will collaborate in teams to create innovative digital maps of one Nigerian state, highlighting critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, roads, and utilities. These maps will provide insights that can drive sustainable development across Nigeria,” the agency said.
The competition is open to Nigerian citizens, with participants required to be 18 years of age or older and form teams of 2 to 5 members.
It stated that each team must represent a specific Nigerian state, with participants demonstrating a strong understanding of the state’s infrastructure needs.
NITDA added that participants would be required to identify key infrastructure from selected focus areas in their respective states and use mapping and visualisation tools to develop detailed, interactive digital maps.
The maps, the agency explained, should present the findings in a compelling manner that showcases the infrastructure needs and opportunities within the state.
It added that participants were expected to submit their final projects as URLs linking to the digital maps.
“Teams should aim to create detailed, insightful, and actionable digital maps that can be used by government agencies, startups, and international organizations to better understand the state’s infrastructure landscape,” NITDA noted.
