The Managing Director, NIWA, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji
The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterway Authority, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, has said the agency would collaborate more with security agencies to ensure more patrols on the nation’s inland waterways.
He emphasised the need to boost security on the nation’s inland waterways.
Oyebamji in a statement on Friday, stated this during a tour at the Warri and Onitsha Area Offices of NIWA.
The statement mentioned that the NIWA boss had inspected the Aba and Warri River Port Complexes.
“We would be looking at possible ways to increase collaboration with the various security agencies to ensure more patrols on the nation’s waterway,” Oyebamji said.
He also called for deeper private sector participation in the blue economy initiative to harness greater benefits for national development.
Oyebamji said NIWA is determined to revamp the nation’s economy by consolidating public-private partnership initiatives.
“This initiative is part of our deliberate plans to open up new opportunities to maximize the full economic potentials of the nation’s waterways,” the NIWA boss said.
According to him, the PPP is the way to go, “there is a need for investors, who have genuine intentions and purposes to enable us to align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for economic recovery.”
Oyebamji charged the staff members of NIWA to live up to expectations by working harder in revenue generation.
He warned against indolence and laxity stressing that his administration is committed to staff welfare and revenue generation.
“There is a need for the staff to be disciplined and committed by rededicating themselves to the growth and development of NIWA,” Oyebamji stated.
