The owner of NJPW provided an update on Konosuke Takeshita‘s status with the company.

AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita defeated Shingo Takagi to win the NEVER Openweight Championship at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19. He defended both titles against Tomohiro Ishii at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty. After the show, he announced that he was affiliated with NJPW, in addition to AEW and DDT.

Speaking with Tokyo Sports, Takaaki Kidani, the CEO of Bushiroad, which owns New Japan Pro-Wrestling, commented on Konosuke Takeshita’s status. (Translated by DeepL)

” I think the contract is for one year, but AEW doesn’t have many matches. If he wants to fight in the New Japan main event, that could happen in practice,” Kidani said. “I think it’s fine for him to come and go. There are a lot of players like that.”

Takeshita started wrestling for AEW in 2021. He then signed with the company in 2022. He won the AEW International Championship at AEW WrestleDream 2024. Takeshita made his NJPW in the G1 Climax 34. He later competed at NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed and NJPW Strong Style Evolved.

Konosuke Takeshita is set to defend the NEVER Openweight Championship against KUSHIDA at NJPW Battle in the Valley.
