The Sokoto State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress has officially submitted its proposal for implementing the new minimum wage to the state government, fulfilling an earlier request by the authorities.
The Secretary of the Labour Union in Sokoto, Hamisu Hussain, confirmed the submission, stating that the document was delivered to the Deputy Governor’s office on Monday evening.
“We have submitted the template for the new minimum wage, as requested by the state government, to the Deputy Governor’s office. It was submitted after our meeting, and we have everything on record as we await further discussions with the state government,” Hussain said during an interview on Tuesday.
The submission follows a meeting held on Monday between the Labour Union and the Sokoto State government, where the Deputy Governor, Idris Gobir, assured the union of the government’s commitment to implementing the new wage structure.
Hussain added that the union is now awaiting the state government’s response on the next steps regarding minimum wage implementation.
The Labour Union has expressed hope for swift progress in discussions to ensure workers’ demands are met.
