NMC inaugurates 10-member board for GBC

The National Media Commis­sion (NMC) yesterday inaugu­rated a 10-member board for the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) at a brief ceremony in Accra.

The board which retained eight previous members with two new ones include Samuel Kojo Intsiaba as chair­man, with other members including Tanoh Debrah, Francis Dadzie, Peter Djakwah, Ama Serwah N-T, Thomas Broni, Adjei Afriyie Nketia, Raymond Kumah Acquah and Managing Direc­tor, Prof. Amin Alhassan.

The chair of the NMC, Yaw Boa­du-Ayeboafo, speaking in a remark charged the board and the workers to adopt all professional standards in order not to be tagged of belonging or favouring a particular political party.

According to him, GBC should not allow itself to be implicated in issues of bias in political reportage during this year’s election in order to continue to be the government’s mouth piece for the people.

Mr Ayeboafo stated that the retain­ment of some previous members of the board was a testament of their good works and charged them to use the opportunity to rebuild the corpo­ration.

He indicated that the competency of the Board was carefully chosen to guide the corporation to a level required of it as a state broadcaster.

The chairman noted that election 2024 held the key to the country’s dem­ocratic test hence the role of the media in identifying the difference between political parties and candidates.

Mr Ayeboafo said the rights of political parties and candidates were far different and urged GBC to consider moral and ethical standards before covering and making pronouncements on the upcoming elections.

He commended the outgoing board, staff and management for maintaining a peaceful industrial atmosphere during the past two years and charged the new board to maintain that standard.

The out-going Board Chair, Mr Sam­uel Debrah, commended the members for their support that transformed the fortunes of the corporation and urged the workers to extent that corpora­tion to the new board to enable them succeed.

The new board chairman, Mr In­tsiaba, expressed the commitment of the new group to live up to the task in order to improve on previous achieve­ments.
