A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Kaduna State, Isa Rabiu, has urged former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to allow a full and thorough investigation into his eight years in office and stop making attempts to claim innocence.

Naija News reports that El-Rufai had recently refuted claims of embezzling state funds during his eight-year tenure as Kaduna State Governor.

The Kaduna State House of Assembly had indicted El-Rufia’s administration for misappropriating over N423 billion.

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and his allies have denied these allegations, claiming they are being witch-hunted by the Assembly and the state government.

While featuring on the Hausa program aired on Freedom Radio station in Kaduna on Tuesday morning, El-Rufai said he joined politics solely to serve the people, not to seek money or steal public funds.

He emphasized that he was content with what he had before becoming governor, yet was accused of financial misappropriation without any specific area.

However, Rabiu, in a recent conversation with journalists, criticized El-Rufai’s assertion that he did not misappropriate public funds while serving as the governor of Kaduna.

The PDP chieftain said, “Former governor El-Rufai should wait patiently for the final investigation before uttering anything against his predecessors or swearing with the Quran on what transpired during the eight years of his administration in Kaduna State.”

Rabiu observed that the same El-Rufai ‘arranged’ a petition against former governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, following which the Makarfi administration was investigated.

“To be honest, from all indications, El-Rufai lacks discipline, self control and focus to do the right thing than swearing with holy Quran. The same El-Rufai ran away to a foreign country during the regime of late President Yar’Adua and only came back when the President died in 2010 and started making unnecessary utterances against the late President Yar’Adua,” he told Daily Post.

Rabiu requested that the government of Kaduna State, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission, ICPC, undertake a probe into the ex-governor to seek restitution for the funds misappropriated from the state while he was in office.
