Ilkay Gundogan has once again become a hot topic in Barcelona because of his tendency to publicly criticise the team after poor performances.

Six months ago, Gundogan came into focus after he launched a scathing attack on Barcelona’s performance and mentality for the loss to Real Madrid.

His comments were not taken well in the Barça dressing room, and he was even asked to justify his statements.

Now, after the defeat to PSG, Gundogan once again criticised the team’s performance, most notably pointing out Ronald Araujo’s defensive mistake which led to his expulsion.

Shortly after Gundogan’s comments, Jules Kounde issued a thinly veiled response to the German, which led to speculation of discontent in the Barcelona dressing between Gundogan and the rest of his teammates.

However, journalist Laia Tudel Prades has clarified that there is no discontent brewing in the Barcelona dressing room between Gundogan and his teammates.

Prades’ claims confirm an earlier report which stated that Gundogan’s comments were taken well in the Barcelona dressing room this time.

Some of his teammates even supported the German’s analysis of the game and agreed that Barcelona were indeed quite poor on the night.

Araujo on Gundogan’s comments

Ronald Araujo was the primary target of Gundogan’s criticism after the PSG defeat. But even the Uruguayan international refused to comment on the German’s criticism.

During his book launch event, Araujo refused to offer his thoughts on Gundogan’s comments, stating it was a personal matter.

It appears the defender, as well as the rest of his teammates, are not too keen on making a big deal out of Gundogan’s words and are more focused on preparing for the upcoming El Clasico against Real Madrid on Sunday.
