If the disheartening loss against PSG in the Champions League was not enough, Barcelona met Real Madrid today at the Santiago Bernabeu, and came back with another tough loss.

Jude Bellingham headlined the game with a 91st-minute winner, with Lucas Vazquez running the show from right-back, but the main highlights of the game were poor refereeing that included an incorrect penalty call and a clear goal not given.

As for the penalty by Pau Cubarsi, Marc-Andre ter Stegen called Vazquez ‘intelligent’.

“Vazquez was intelligent in the penalty call. I think he tried to look for it,” he said, as quoted by MARCA.

The Barcelona captain was much more harsh on Lamine Yamal’s goal not being given from the corner, though.

“I have no words to describe it. Not counting that has a goal is a real shame for football. They have a lot of money, but apparently not for the most important thing,” ter Stegen criticised La Liga.

Update on the Araujo-Gundogan ‘feud’

One of the major talking points this week, following the PSG disaster, was the mini-fued between Ilkay Gundogan and Ronald Araujo over the red card incident.

However, Araujo cleared the air today, saying, “I spoke to Gundogan and he apologised to me.”

As for the refereeing today, the centre-back was clearly not moved by it enough to cite it as the reason for their loss.

“We cannot use the referees as an excuse. These are details that we missed and we failed again.”

However, he did speak about the non-goal, saying, “We are in one of the best leagues in the world and it is ridiculous that we do not have goal line technology.”

“We have to continue fighting. We have to finish second for the Super Cup,” he added.

Finally, Araujo concluded by saying, “It has been a sad week, but I am strong mentally. I am working hard to be that way. That is how I have made it at this club.”
