The Nordisk Film & TV Fond has teamed with the Göteborg Film Festival to launch the Nordic Series Awards, a new award to honor Nordic drama series.

The Nordic Series Award replaces the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize, which has been awarded annually at Göteborg’s TV Drama Vision since 2017. The award will honor the best screenwriting in Nordic drama.

Supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond, the award includes a 200,000 NOK cash prize and will be given to the main writer(s) of a Nordic drama series that premiered in the previous year.

The two organizations have also launched the Creative Courage Award to honor the producer and commissioner behind what has been described as “a series that pushes creative boundaries and embraces bold, innovative approaches.”

Both awards will be presented annually at Göteborg’s TV Drama Vision. The call for nominations opens today. The deadline to submit a series is November 15. To be eligible, a series must be Nordic, with the main production companies based in the Nordic countries. Only the first season of a series is eligible. The show must have debuted in the previous year.

Discussing the new award, Cia Edström, Head of TV Drama Vision, said:
”With the launch of the Nordic Series Awards, we aim to elevate the recognition of both the screenwriters who craft these compelling stories and the forces behind the scenes who take risks and push the industry forward.”

Previous winners of the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize include the political drama Power Play and Norwegian writer-director Kenneth Karlstad’s gritty coming-of-age series Kids in Crime.

Liselott Forsman, CEO of Nordisk Film & TV Fond, added: “The Fund continues to celebrate creators of excellent Nordic drama series through our renewed script award in good collaboration with TV Drama Vision. In economically tough times there is a risk of playing safe when commissioning series. Our new shared initiative, the Creative Courage Award, will shine a light on production companies and broadcasters/streamers whose brave efforts and fruitful collaboration have enabled an especially fresh Nordic quality series.”
