In a show of solidarity, Northern governors have pledged their support for Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s recent outburst.
According to Ado Musa, an aide to one of the northern governors, “It’s unhealthy for an appointed minister to parade himself as an emperor before elected governors. It’s high time something is done to caution Wike or sack him.”
This development comes as the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) prepares to meet tomorrow in Abuja to deliberate on the issue. The capacity of the current chairman, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, is also in doubt.
The Governors deliberated on Minister Nyesom Wike’s outburst while asserting Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s capacity as well as local government autonomy
The Northern governors’ support for Governor Fubara is a significant development in the ongoing controversy. The South-South governors had previously threatened to boycott both Nigeria Governors Forum and National Economic Council meetings unless Wike is removed or cautioned.
The NGF meeting tomorrow aims to find a resolution to the conflicts within the Rivers State Chapter of the party and the attempted impeachment of Governor Sim Fubara.
