Northumbria Police reassure Newcastle United fans – Their Saturday city centre plan

Northumbria Police have moved to reassure Newcastle United fans attending Saturday’s match.

United playing a second friendly in two days, having won 4-0 against Girona on Friday night.

Northumbria Police giving NUFC fans and indeed the public in general, details of their plans for policing the city centre today.

As you can see from the information below, Northumbria Police limiting any demonstrations to the Bigg Market and Newgate Street area, well away from St James’ Park.

Sadly, many Newcastle United fans who had intended to go to today’s friendly, even those who had already bought tickets, worrying whether they should still go, in case they got caught up in any trouble.

Hopefully the info put out by Northumbria Police reassuring any Newcastle United fans who were having second thoughts about going to this NUFC v Brest friendly, which is preceded by Newcastle United women v AC Milan at 1pm, one ticket price gets you both matches.

Northumbria Police making clear they will have significant numbers of officers out, in order to deal with anybody looking to cause trouble in our city centre.

The Monument Metro station will be closed today until Nexus and Northumbria Police decide it is the right time to reopen it (details HERE) later in the day.

‘To help us keep our communities safe today, a legal order has been put in place allowing officers to control the movement of those taking part in today’s protests. Demonstrators will be limited to Bigg Market and Newgate Street.

We also have a separate legal order in place giving officers increased stop and search powers, allowing them to search people and vehicles for weapons. We will require anyone within the area shown below to remove face coverings used to hide their identity.

These measures have been put in place to protect those visiting and living in Newcastle, and with every deployable officer on our streets, we’re doing everything we can to ensure today passes without serious incident.’
