In recent updates from transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano, it has been confirmed that there are currently no discussions between Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Manchester United.

This means that the Premier League side has not reached out to either the player or Barcelona regarding a transfer.

As the summer transfer window approaches its conclusion, rumours linking de Jong to Manchester United have resurfaced.

This situation mirrors last summer’s transfer saga, where Manchester United recognised Barcelona’s urgent need to sell key players due to financial difficulties. United aimed to exploit this situation once again.

However, Romano has clarified that, despite the speculation, there is no concrete development between the parties at this moment. De Jong remains focused on fulfilling his contract with Barcelona and has not expressed any desire to leave.

Barcelona are ready to sell de Jong

Despite the latest assurances, Barcelona are not completely ruling out the possibility of de Jong’s departure.

The club is open to selling the midfielder if an offer of around €60 million is made. This renewed willingness to consider selling de Jong follows recent reports suggesting that Manchester United have revived their interest in the Dutch international.

Previously, there were indications that Manchester United had once again shown interest in de Jong. It was reported that the Premier League giants had made contact with Barcelona to signal their intent to acquire the former Ajax star.

According to these reports, Manchester United were prepared to offer between £30 million and £40 million to secure his services during the current transfer window.

However, Romano has confirmed that no such offer has been made so far, nor is there any situation developing between the two at this point.

At present, Barcelona are facing the need for a significant sale to comply with La Liga’s financial regulations, specifically the 1:1 rule, and resolve their financial fair play issues. The club is exploring various financial strategies to meet these requirements.

The current solutions, known as “levers,” have been employed to address the challenges of offloading players such as de Jong, Raphinha, and Ronald Araujo, all of whom are keen on continuing their tenure with Barcelona.
