Nottingham Forest v Arsenal preview

By the time Arsenal take the field on Tuesday night it will have been 10 days since their 5-0 win over Crystal Palace in their last match, due to their being knocked out of the FA Cup at the start of the month.

In fact, that London derby victory has been their only match in the last three weeks having also enjoyed a week off from their winter break, so Mikel Arteta's side could either be feeling super fresh ahead of Tuesday's game, or slightly out of practice.

The initial winter break might have come at a nice time for the Gunners who had won just one of their seven matches prior, which had seen them fall from top of the Premier League down to fourth, as well as see their exit from the FA Cup at the first time of asking.

The north London side's win over Palace though saw them climb back into the top three in the league, where they trail league leaders Liverpool by five points, and are level on points with the defending champions Manchester City, albeit having played a game more.

Arsenal to make their trip to the City Ground on Tuesday night, though, having not won any of their last four matches on the road, a run they will need to fix as soon as possible if they want to keep their title aspirations alive.

While the Gunners have only played once in the last three weeks, Nottingham Forest will be playing their fifth game in that same period when they welcome the side from the capital to the City Ground on Tuesday night.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side had to manoeuvre their way through an FA Cup third round replay with League One side Blackpool while also only managing a 0-0 draw with Championship side Bristol City, which has really clogged up their fixture list of late.

The East Midlands side have only won one of their last four matches in all competitions, and even needed extra time to get that win after bottling a 2-0 lead away at Blackpool in their FA Cup replay a fortnight ago.

Nuno only took charge of the team last month after the sacking of Steve Cooper, and his Forest side have lost only one of their last six, which includes picking up vital league wins against Newcastle and Manchester United to push them clear of the bottom three.

They did fall to defeat in their last Premier League match though in a relegation six-pointer away at Brentford in which Ivan Toney, in his first game back after an eight month ban, inspired the Bees to a 3-2 win.

Nottingham Forest have subsequently fallen back down to 16th place in the league table ahead of Tuesday's match, and are now only four points clear of the relegation zone.

Arsenal have lost on each of their last three trips to the City Ground, without scoring in either of their last two, and Nuno even has a winning record in his time as manager against Arsenal, winning three and losing only two of his seven matches he's managed against them.
